Florence (/ˈflɒrəns/ FLORR-ənss; Italian: Firenze [fiˈrɛntse] is a city in Central Italy and the capital city of the Tuscany region. It is without question my favorite place that I've visited in Italy. Don't you feel better knowing that?
Terrace on the Cathedral
We stayed at this wonderfully convenient location via Airbnb. The view of the Duomo was stunning, and it was so close it seemed like you could reach out and touch the thing. It was quite a bit more spacious than most of the other places we stayed in Italy.
Accademia Gallery
As usual in Italy, the art and history all around are absolutely remarkable to see in person. We saw a lot of awesome pieces here, as well as the very popular David.
Palazzo Vecchio
The Palazzo Vecchio is the town hall of Florence, Italy. It overlooks the Piazza della Signoria, which holds a copy of Michelangelo's David statue. It's one of our favorite chill spots, and it has a handful of great spots in the courtyard for al fresco dining.
Uffizi Gallery
You could spend years at this gallery and still not have had enough time to see all of the art.
Piazza del Duomo
Turning a corner and seeing this for the first time is a very memorable experience. Even after seeing a lot of incredible architecture elsewhere in Italy, this one broke my brain. After a few days worth of processing the sheer size and details of this building, I found it almost as rewarding just watching folks experience seeing it for the first time. The dumbfounded look is primal. The hike up to the top was a bit of a workout, and a little claustrophobic in some areas, but the view up there is 9000% worth it.
